When a Tooth Needs to Come Out
At Smile Vegas Dental, preserving your natural teeth is always our first priority. However, when a tooth is severely damaged, infected, unstable, impacted, or cannot be restored, an extraction may be the best option to protect your oral health and relieve discomfort.
Before recommending an extraction, we'll carefully evaluate your condition and discuss all available treatment options. If a tooth can be saved, we'll do everything we can to preserve it. When removal is necessary, our team will ensure the process is as comfortable and stress-free as possible.

What to Expect at Your Extraction Appointment
- Consultation & X-Rays Before any extraction, we'll take X-rays to assess the position and condition of the tooth and surrounding bone. We'll review your medical history, discuss your options, and answer any questions you have.
- Anesthesia The area around the tooth will be thoroughly numbed with a local anesthetic. You'll feel pressure during the procedure, but not pain. If you have dental anxiety or are undergoing a more complex extraction, sedation options are available.
- The Extraction Depending on the complexity of the tooth, your dentist will perform either a simple or surgical extraction. The procedure itself is typically much quicker than patients expect.
- Gauze & Initial Healing Once the tooth is removed, gauze will be placed over the socket to help control bleeding and begin the clotting process. You'll receive detailed aftercare instructions before you leave.
- Recovery & Follow-Up Most patients recover comfortably within a few days. We'll schedule a follow-up if needed and are always available to answer questions during your recovery.
Tooth Replacement Options After Extraction
Losing a tooth doesn't have to be permanent. In fact, replacing a missing tooth as soon as healing allows is strongly recommended — gaps left by missing teeth can cause neighboring teeth to shift, affect your bite, and lead to bone loss in the jaw over time.
At Smile Vegas Dental, we offer several tooth replacement options to restore both the function and appearance of your smile after an extraction:
- Dental Implants The gold standard in tooth replacement. A titanium post is placed into the jawbone and topped with a custom crown that looks, feels, and functions like a natural tooth. Implants are permanent, long-lasting, and the closest thing to a real tooth that modern dentistry can offer. → Learn more about Dental Implants.
- Dental Bridges A fixed bridge fills the gap left by a missing tooth by anchoring a prosthetic tooth to the healthy teeth on either side. Bridges are a strong, natural-looking solution that restores chewing function and prevents shifting. → Learn more about Dental Bridges.
- Dentures & Partial Dentures For patients missing multiple teeth, full or partial dentures offer a removable, affordable solution for restoring your smile and oral function. → Learn more about Dentures.
