Protect & Restore Your Tooth From the Inside Out
There are moments when a tooth needs more than a filling can offer, when decay has progressed too far, when a crack threatens the integrity of the whole tooth, or when a root canal has left a tooth hollowed and vulnerable. In these situations, a porcelain crown is often the most effective and conservative way to save the tooth, restore its function, and protect it from further damage.
At Smile Vegas Dental, we offer custom-crafted porcelain crowns designed to blend seamlessly with your surrounding teeth. Each crown is precisely matched to the color, shape, and size of your natural smile so the restoration looks and feels completely natural. Whether you need a crown to address significant decay, repair a fractured tooth, or complete a root canal treatment, our team will guide you through every step of the process with clarity and care.

What Is a Porcelain Crown?
Dental crowns are a complete solution for addressing a variety of common tooth problems. At Smile Vegas Dental, we offer porcelain crowns that function like a cap, covering your natural tooth to provide a new surface and increased stability. Unlike dental fillings, porcelain crowns provide more extensive coverage, making them ideal for treating teeth with severe damage or decay. If you have a weakened tooth following a root canal or sustained dental damage from an injury, our dentist may recommend a porcelain crown as a reliable and cost-effective option to preserve your natural tooth and prevent further damage.
There are various reasons why a patient may need a porcelain crown, such as cracked, broken, or severely worn-out teeth, failing large fillings, or the need to correct the shape or color.
Porcelain crowns offer multiple benefits, including:
- Strengthening weakened teeth: They provide protection and a stable surface to protect the tooth from further damage or decay.
- Enhancing the appearance of damaged teeth: Porcelain crowns are custom-designed to match the size, shape, and color of your natural teeth, providing a seamless solution that blends in with the rest of your smile.
- Long-lasting solution: With proper care, porcelain crowns can last for many years, making them a durable and cost-effective solution.
What to Expect During Your Crown Appointment
Preparation & Impressions Your dentist will begin by numbing the tooth and surrounding area with a local anesthetic. The tooth is then carefully shaped and reduced to create space for the crown to fit over it properly. Once the tooth is prepared, we take precise impressions, using digital scanning technology for accuracy, which are sent to our dental lab to fabricate your custom crown.
A temporary crown is placed over the prepared tooth to protect it while your permanent crown is being made. Most patients wear their temporary crown comfortably for one to two weeks.
Placement & Fitting When your permanent crown is ready, you'll return to have it placed. Your dentist will remove the temporary crown, check the fit and color match of the permanent restoration, make any necessary adjustments, and permanently cement it in place.
Before you leave, we'll check your bite carefully to make sure the crown feels completely natural and comfortable. Final minor adjustments are made as needed.
The entire two-appointment process is straightforward, and most patients are pleasantly surprised by how comfortable and quick it is.
How Long Do Porcelain Crowns Last?
- Your oral hygiene habits at home, such as brushing, flossing, and rinsing regularly
- Whether you grind or clench your teeth, if so, a custom nightguard is strongly recommended to protect your crown from excessive wear
- Avoiding habits that place excessive stress on crowns, such as chewing ice, biting fingernails, or using teeth as tools
- Attending regular cleanings and exams so our team can monitor the condition of the crown and the tooth beneath it
